Life Writers Ink

Five members meet monthly to encourage critique on written projects, share books, discuss authors and writing techniques, help with technical skills, and attend author readings, poetry workshops, book festivals, conferences, and writing retreats. Members are published as short story contest winners and their stories and poetry appear in various anthologies, newspapers, and textbooks. See Ruth Zaryski Jackson and Cheryl Andrews. In February 2010, they attended a valuable 1-day workshop presented by The Writers’ Union of Canada at Ryerson University. From that experience, Mary created a blog about her writing journey.

Writing Retreats

2010 Life Writers Ink one-week retreat in Fort Myerswith a set agenda, combining writing and learning more about publishing, marketing, and maximizing an online presence.

2011, A 10-day memoir-writing retreat in Arizona’s Sabino Springs, with a facilitator, Allyson Latta

2011, Life Writers Ink4-day retreat at Otter Lakewith guest instructor, Allyson Latta, to introduce her workshop, Illuminating the Path: Finding Theme and Structure in Your Memoir.

2011 – 2019,  5 days in July at Turquoise Waters Writers’ Retreatat Sandy Lakein Ontario’s Kawartha district, facilitated by Janet Markham and Allyson Latta.

2011, The inaugural meeting for the Writers’ Community of York Region, WCYR, a second writing group modeled on the successful 400-member Writers’ Community of Durham Region, WCDR

2014 – 2018, annual Life Writers Ink 4-day writers’ retreats at Otter Lake, Ontario

2012 – 2017, Attended three Ontario Regional Writer’s Conferencesin Durham Region; patron, Candian author, Wayson Choy.
